‘Tis the fair season once again.  Just a reminder to all members—the traffic during fair week is bad out here, especially in the early evening.  Please be careful, and please keep your dogs on leash until they are safely in the park. http://portercountyfair.com/ 

Perhaps you have noticed the lovely memorial board put up in a “picture window” on the porch recently.  Our photographer member and friend, Cheryl Sutherland (Pretty Paws Pet Photography), with inspiration from Patrick, a longtime member and friend of CCC, put it up to honor our dogs that are gone, but not forgotten.  All CCC members are invited to share a photo or memory of the best friends they have lost.  Contact Cheryl at the Pretty Paws link on this site, or contact us via email.

The Clubhouse will be initiated tomorrow with the first Puppy and Obedience classes of the summer session.  We have some ants refusing to evacuate the area, and some grass refusing to grow in some spots, but we are pleased and excited!  Any ideas, suggestions, or requests for usages of the clubhouse will be considered and appreciated.  The new agility session starts next Tuesday with Foundations for Agility and More, and Introduction to Obstacles.  How nice to know that from now on, weather is no longer a factor in our training schedule!  Special thanks to Chad Kuehl and the crew at Superior Flooring & Remodeling.

Our office will be closed from July 2 - July 12, and will resume normal hours Tuesday, July 13. The park will be open for members only on Monday, July 5th, in observance of the holiday, but will be closed from 11-1 that day for necessary maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience. In spite of heat, humidity, and rain in the morning, the DD turned out to be a great success!  A good time was had by all—racers and spectators, both human and canine.  Everybody was a wiener!  Thanks to our old friends for coming up from southern Indiana to help with the event, and congratulations to all the participants.  We had some nice media coverage complete with photos from the Chronicle and the Post Tribune.  Thanks also to Cheryl and Doug Sutherland of Pretty Paws Pet Photography, and Kelly and Bob of JF Cemps Homemade Dog Treats for helping to make the day a success.  Please see our Facebook page for some photos of the event!   

CCC will be celebrating the summer Nocar racing season with our third annual Dachshund Derby* (formerly known as Dachshund Dash).  The event will be held on Saturday, June 12th, at 2:00 p.m.  (Rain date:  Sunday, June 13th, same time.)  This is a fun race open to  Dachshunds of all sizes and hair types, which will be held outside, on grass, in our fenced training yard.  Prizes will be awarded.  Our friend and CCC member, Cheryl Sutherland, of Pretty Paws Pet Photography http://prettypaws.vpweb.com/  will be on hand to capture the excitement and action, and to photograph your favorite dog -- whether he/she is a racer or not!

Preregistration is required for all racers.  Each entrant must show proof of current rabies and distemper vaccinations, sign an indemnity agreement, and pay an entry fee.  Fees are $7 for CCC members and $10 for non-members.  Race day entries will be accepted from 12:30-1:30 on June 12th (or 13th), with an entry fee of $12.  All entrants must have 2 handlers, for start and finish lines.  To register your hot dog racer, or for more information, please call Canine Country Club  at 219-548-3604, or visit our website at http://www.cccdogpark.com
